LIGHT PENETRATION ON A SUNNY DAY

LIGHT PENETRATION ON AN OVERCAST DAY

The two Lumen Micro renderings show the way in which the daylight enters the café and how it gradually dissipates into the back of the first floor.  You can tell the light does not quite reach the second floor/mezzanine.  The calculation shows by what degree the light dissipates, letting us know how important the day lighting is in the front spaces and how inefficient it is at lighting the second floor.

Illumination: We took the illumination readings three times on four
days with different sky conditions. The illumination meter was put on
the coffee tables about 3 feet high on the second floor. The readings
were all small regardless the sky conditions because all the lights
were turned off.
